Have you ever noticed that you just “click” with certain people and find others to be challenging and even frustrating?
Perhaps you’re a highly creative person who gets energized by new ideas and possibilities. People like you will find your energy inspiring and engaging. But people who are more reflective, reserved, and analytic may experience those exact same qualities as overwhelming, and even scattered. Nobody is “right” or “wrong” in this case, it’s all about perceptions and preferences. But without clear insight into our how preferences and tendencies drive behavior, our “lens” on other people can be cloudy and filled with judgement.
DiSC can help people avoid the judgement trap, and instead, help people understand and appreciate differences.
What is DiSC?
DiSC is a personality and behavior assessment tool used by over a million people each year to improve teamwork, communication, and productiviity. It is a proven, scientifically validated assessment with a 90%+ accuracy rating from learners worldwide.
How do I take a DISC assessment?
Dunn Talent Consulting partners with Wiley Workplace Solutions so our clients get the benefit of their best-in-class tools. One of those is the newly developed Catalyst platform. To take DiSC, you will be sent a link to Catalyst. Once you register, you will respond to behavioral statements on a five-point scale to measure your preferences and tendencies based on the DiSC model—a simple, yet powerful model that describes four basic behavioral styles: D (Dominance), i (influence), S (Steadiness), and C (Conscientiousness). Catalyst delivers each learners’ assessment results using a personalized, narrative-style behavioral profile. The personalized profile content:
Deepens self-understanding through the lens of each learner’s unique DiSC style
Gives learners insight into their own preferences and tendencies
Lays the groundwork for a transformational learning experience full of “aha!” moments
How does knowing my DiSC style and the DiSC model help me?
When we understand ourselves better, we can make more informed choices and we develop the social and emotional know-how for more effective interactions in the workplace. We learn to appreciate and value differences in perspective and approach.
How could it help a team?
The true power of DiSC becomes clear when a team particpates together. Things that once were sources of constant conflict and tension can be transformed into non-judgemental insights about mutual needs and preferences. On the Catalyst platform, team members can get specific and tailored tips for how to work more effectively with each person on the team.

The Five Behaviors® of A Cohesive Team
Bringing out the best in teams can be challenging, but the payoff can be game changing. The team building work I do is often based on the work of Patrick Lencioni and his best-selling book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. The foundation of this process is a powerful set of data that comes from the team members themselves.
